My name is Daniel SandsI am a South English resident living in Dorset. I am a computer programmer by day and have been interested in photography for some time. Prior to the lockdown my main areas of photography were landscapes and weddings, but with travel off the cards when lockdown struck in March 2020 I was left searching for other avenues to take photos of – I tried a number of different “staying creative at home”Before trying my hand with Lego photography, I had completed several photography projects. It started very simple. I created a small studio out of bits of old KNEX and some yellow card. From there, I tried many different techniques to create some of the images in this collection. I find great joy in being able to say that I use various household items in my photography, and avoid any expensive kit lists – I use baking powder as a substitute for snow, and use a lens blower to turn that powder into the “smoke”You can see it in many of my photos. I’ve gone on to make my own YouTube channel “Bricks from Another Galaxy”This article outlines some of the techniques that I use and shows how to set up various behind-the-scenes setups.
