Think of a killer toy movieYou can watch the video, most likely one of the Child’s PlayOr AnnabelleWhile movies are the obvious choice, there are many other and perhaps better cinematic killer toys. There were many films that came before and after these films. Some are more psychological than others, while others are more gory slasher film fun.

The origins of the killer toy phenomenon can be traced back. The Devil-DollAlthough many may not remember Talky Tina, the first killer doll to be seen on-screen in 1936, it was a powerful doll. The Twilight Zone’s season 5, episode 6 “Living Doll”1963. In the 1980s, the killer toy phenomenon was in full swing. There were several movies. Magic (1979), The Devil’s Gift(1984), Joey(1985), to name just a few. When Tom Holland’s Child’s PlayChucky the killer doll was first released in 1988. This doll helped popularize the killer toy genre and it has grown more over time.

6. Pinocchio’s Revenge (1996)

Kevin S. Tenney’s Pinocchio’s RevengeThe 1996 psychological thriller “The Killer Toy Movie” is unique because the doll is rarely shown in action. Jennifer Garrick (Rosalind All) is defending Vincent Gotto (Lewis Van Bergen), who was convicted of killing children. After Gotto is executed, Garrick’s coworker has the only evidence left: a creepy-looking puppet who bears a striking resemblance to Pinocchio. Garrick brings the doll home to try to find clues, but Zoe (Brittany Alyse Smith), mistakenly considers the puppet a present. Similar to Paranormal Activity 7Zoe quickly becomes attached to the doll. Shortly after the puppet arrives in the house, danger surrounds Zoe: her babysitter gets ruthlessly killed, her elementary-school bully gets pushed in front of the school bus, and Garrick’s boyfriend falls down the stairs.

This movie is ranked worst out of the killer toy genre, as the audience hardly sees a glimpse of the doll alive, and the film’s cheesiness overrides the story. The film borders on comedy with its bizarre and zany direct to video atmosphere. It almost feels like a comedy. Goosebumps children’s movie as opposed to a horror movie. The story has potential as it makes the viewer wonder if the doll is the perpetrator or Zoe.

Terror ToonsIt almost feels like the set was rented from an Adult-Video studio, rather than a horror movie. But it has killer toys and blood, so it is a killer toy movie. It isn’t necessarily a well-made movie, but it is incredibly entertaining to watch, and that is the main point of these types of films.

4. The Pit (1987).

Lew Lehman’s The PitThe film, which is ridiculously low-budget, tells the story of Jamie and his cuddly bear. It has elements of horror, comedy and creature feature which make it both entertaining and confusing. The film is about Jamie, a 12-year old boy who lives with his teddy bear. He also frequents the woods to visit. “the pit,”Troggs, which eat human flesh, dig a hole in the ground. Bullies Jamie end up in this pit quickly, but the teddy bear encourages him to go. Jamie quickly gets labeled a troubled kid. Pinocchio’s Revenge, there is the question of whether it is the bear committing these crimes, or is it all in Jamie’s head?

Jamie is the creepiest child in horror films. He plays tricks with his bear, feeds his bullies to animals, and even sings Disney-esque music in the background. Although this movie is not a masterpiece in cinematic terror, the third act is a surprise and makes the film worth watching.

Candy Hutson does a remarkable portrayal of a possessed child and the movie is utterly enjoyable.

2. Puppet Master (1989).

David Schmoeller’s 1989 horror film Puppet Master cleverly depicts possessed puppets in a genuinely unique way as opposed to other killer toy movies. In 1939, a puppet master named André Toulon (William Hickey) had the gift of bringing his puppets to life. Toulon commits suicide, and the film then goes to the present day, where five psychics come together due to a former colleague “connecting” them. Alex Whitaker, Paul Le Mat, and four other psychics experience constant nightmares. This leads them to find their coworker, Neil (Jimmie F. Scaggs), dead after committing suicide. Soon, the physics are haunted once again by a group puppets that Toulon created many years ago.

Puppet MasterThis 80s horror classic is a surreal and dreamy masterpiece. It produced some of most terrifying toys in the killer-toy category, despite being low-budget. It’s slow-paced, intriguing, and creepy. It isn’t over the top in any sense and leaves much to the imagination. Stop-motion effects make the puppets more frightening than CGI. And the camera shots are what really stand out: low-level shots at the feet of the puppets and closeups on their eerie faces, grinning from ear to ear. It’s a perfect late-night film to watch with friends.

1. Dolls (1987).

Stuart Gordon’s DollsThis was just one year ago Child’s Play but didn’t even get close to the amount of recognition that it deserves. The film follows Judy, seven-year-old Judy (Carrie Lorraine). The house’s owners are an elderly and a rather scary couple, Gabe and Hilary (Guy Wolfe, Hilary Mason), who let them into their home. Ralph (Stephen Lee), an innocent, child-like man, and two hitchhikers, Bunty Bailey and Cassie Stuart, later enter the house. As soon as they enter the house, they find thousands of dolls (which are revealed as killer dolls), ranging from adorable dolls to rather frightening ones. Soon it becomes clear that the couple is puppet makers who murder everyone. “evil” visitor. As a punishment, they put their souls in dolls for the rest of eternity. They do this for the good of children. They are not like other people. Child’s Play, DollsThey are full of symbolism. Judy’s parents are abusive and terrible to Judy, and this is why their souls are forced to be in the doll’s bodies for the rest of eternity. Judy and Ralph are the only survivors of the murders. Aside from the symbolism, the film’s atmosphere is terrific: intense colors, creaky stairs, and the rather spine-chilling lullaby playing throughout. DollsIt has a creepy feeling right from the beginning. There are some funny one-liners and some bloody kills. It is a must-see film for all ages. killer toy movie lover.
