A rumoured new addition to next year’s LEGO Star Wars line-up may have already been revealed in one of the four sets based on The Batman.
Reports of a new type of shooting mechanism – which is said to replace the traditional stud-shooter that’s appeared in LEGO sets since 2014 – first surfaced last month, attached to details on the rumoured 75321 Razor Crest Microfighter that’s thought to be coming in 2022.
While that set and the specifics behind its new shooter are still unconfirmed at the moment, one of the new LEGO DC sets inspired by Matt Reeves’ The Batman looks to include what could well be the new projectile element rumoured to debut in the upcoming Microfighter.
76181 Batmobile: The Penguin Chase equips its eponymous Bat-villain with a stud-shooter that’s somehow even larger and more unwieldy than the original 2014 element, but still looks to operate in a similar way: pressing down on the top-mounted trigger will launch a single 1×1 round plate from its barrel.
If this is indeed the new shooting mechanism that’s supposedly on the way in next year’s LEGO Star Wars sets, it could theoretically also appear in the rumoured 75230 Hoth Battle Pack. Reports suggest that set – which would represent the return of battle packs to the LEGO Star Wars line-up, following their year off in 2021 – will abandon classic stud-shooters.
While that’s apparently in favour of standard blaster elements, we wouldn’t be surprised to see this new handheld shooter included in some capacity, as the LEGO Group often spreads new pieces across as many sets as possible to make producing them more cost-effective.
76181 Batmobile: The Penguin Chase will launch on November 1, 2021 in the US and Canada – where it’s currently available for pre-order – and on January 1, 2022 in the rest of the world.
