Building on the success of the MagnetCubes game from last year, this year’s edition comes with a new type of gameplay that merges the building aspects of LEGO and Minecraft with the competitive nature of multiplayer survival games like Chess and Fortnite (or even Squid Games, if you’re that intense!) The MagnetCubes doesn’t let you simply play a game, it involves you in the design process too, allowing you to build your own gaming board in three dimensions. There are two types of gameplay available with the 2021 MagnetCubes. One allows you to build a track like Hot Wheels for metal marbles that runs in an infinite loop, and the other lets you play CubeClimbers. This game pits different players against each other to climb to top of the MagnetCubes mountain.

MagnetCube is a transparent framework that consists of beams and columns held in place by magnets. It allows you to have fun building and then playing. The cube format lends itself to two different games – a multiplayer game called CubeClimbers, or a rollercoaster-building game called Liftpack. CubeClimbers focuses on ascent. To build a tall, multi-level mountain, you must snap the cubes together. Small plastic climbers then explore the mountain, climbing up or falling down depending on the roll of the dice.

CubeClimbers is an strategy game for two to four players. You stack MagnetCubes and try to climb the highest mountain peak.

The game is made more fun with 16 power cards. They allow players to add and remove cubes, freeze them for a few turns, levitate over them, or, my personal favorite, kick them off of a precipice. This could be potentially a dangerous move that can endanger friendships. A rulebook helps you through the game, and the infinite customizability of the magnetic cube’s gaming terrain makes each game absolutely unique and just as fun.

The Liftpack game literally transforms you into a RollerCoaster Tycoon. You can build elaborate coasters and Rube Goldberg machines that marbles will run through. While the modular magnetic transparent cubicles are still used, the cubes act as a frame for red-colored plastic railroads that you attach on top. This allows your marbles to continue rolling along the track. You get everything you need to create an infinite loop for your marbles.

LiftPack contains everything you need to create this infinite looping track.

You can purchase the two games separately. CubeClimbers sets can be used by up to eight players. They also include 16 power cards, a rollable dash, and a guidebook. The Liftpack set, on the other hand, is available in Standard and Advance variants (just like last year’s edition), allowing you to be small and efficient, or embrace a go-big-or-go-home attitude and make a wild track that’s filled with twists and turns. Each Liftpack set comes with ball bearings that will ride on your tracks. This is due to their design and a combination o gravity, inertia, potential/kinetic energy.

Liftpack attracted a lot of attention with its 2020 campaign attracting over 4,000 supporters. kidsAdults can also enjoy a miniature rollercoaster ride, as they do with children. CubeClimbers is the perfect alternative for gamers who enjoy the competitive spirit, as well as board games that include strategy, intrigue, and betrayal. Select your MagnetCube game set and back the campaign now, and you’ll get your game around July next year.
